TESSELLATUM - AMBIENT MUSIC FOR SHORT ATTENTION SPANS

Motion is something inherent to music; it is essential to our survival as animals, and from the polyphony of Thomas Tallis up to Schnittke, Steve Reich, and Donnacha Dennehy, movement, repetition, and refraction have been an artistic obsessions of ours for hundreds of years.
In a hypnotic 40-minute meditation on the sound of viola and viols, award-winning violist and composer Dominic Stokes combines a new version of ‘Tessellatum’ for solo viola and pre-recorded viols by prolific Irish composer Donnacha Dennehy, with a commissioned visual response by filmmaker Maria Andrews, creating an otherworldly, immersive atmosphere; elliding musical and visual lines, one shape from a 1000 different angles.

Rothko Collective is a contemporary music ensemble reshaping and redefining classical music.
Through incorporating elements of multimedia and theatre, we create exciting, immersive, new musical experiences for our audiences, as part of our aim of ‘un-boring’ the concert hall, and welcoming in new faces to the highest calibre music of today.
We have commissioned over 20 new works, and released 3 albums, including collaborations with State51 and Apartment House.
We were featured on BBC Radio 3, have toured parts of the UK and Europe, featured in a variety of prestigious new music festivals, and even put on our own festival, 6 events exploring music from the 1600s to the present.
Our group is comprised of some of London’s top emerging artists, who have worked with Riot Ensemble, Chineke!, Explore Ensemble, 12 Ensemble, and the Britten Sinfonia
